I’ve never seen The Matrix. A lot of people have told me that I should.

I LOVE going to the movies. Okay, I really just LOVE movie theater popcorn. But I also enjoy getting my heart racing during a thriller, having a good laugh at a comedy, or getting emotionally entrenched inside of a great drama.
When a movie is really good we can become so emotionally involved that our body acts like we are actually living the movie instead of watching it. But, even though you are really into the flick, you always maintain the awareness that it is just a movie.

I Think of life as being very much the same way…as a movie. We are all star actors in our own blockbuster. We also get to be our movie’s writer and director. Each day we get to choose our genre; we can live a drama, a comedy, a feel-good, a scary movie, or some combination. Just like when we go to the movie theatre and watch the show, as actors or “players” in our story, we also experience sweating palms, butterflies, rapid heart rate and other effects from our emotions. Even more than when we are just watching and eating popcorn, we get wrapped up in the story. We get overly emotionally entrenched in what is said and done in each “act” (day).
But life is just a movie. You are just playing a role named – insert your name.
When you go to the theater and the show is over, what do you do next? You walk out into the bright sun and realize that you just had a great experience but it wasn’t real. A good movie leaves an impact on you; leaves you changed. But, you know it was a well acted, well coordinated, well choreographed illusion.

I believe that when our show (life) is over, it will be much the same. This Earthly experience is not reality. It has purpose and meaning. It is an opportunity to serve, develop, learn and grow. But when it is said and done, it isn’t true reality. There is a bigger existence that we are a part of. When our credits are rolling, we will walk out into the big bright sunlight and realize that we are so much more; that we exist in a much larger way.
This is important to everyday life.
As we act in each scene, as we live in each day, we should always maintain the knowledge that we have this bigger existence. When our emotions charge because of life’s drama, we can lessen their control upon us by invoking the awareness that life is illusory. We are just playing a role and our true self is actually on the outside of the screen eating popcorn; and will soon be walking out into the bright sun.
No matter what happens in our movie, our popcorn eating selves will not and cannot be diminished in any way. Eating popcorn is our true existence.
So relax. Remember the bigger “picture”. Enjoy the popcorn and enjoy the show. Love. Let. Live. Laugh.
Have a great day!
