If you have ever done yoga you have probably heard the word Namaste. But, do you have any idea what it means?
Namaste is a Hindu greeting. It comes from Sanskrit and has the literal translation of bowing to you. Nama means bow and te means you.

Like any other word, it carries more value than just its original literal meaning. Namaste is understood by many millions of people to mean the following: the divinity in me recognizes and bows to the divinity in you. Okay, cool, but what does that mean and why is that meaningful?
Inside of every single person is a place of beauty; a little spark of God. You can think of it as your soul, your higher self, or literally as God. It doesn’t really matter, but what does matter is that you recognize it as divine; not of your body; not of the Earth.
A lot of people say that we should look for the best in people. Namaste just takes that concept one step further to recognizing the God in people. With some people, it won’t be all that apparent and you have to almost imagine it. You have to have faith that their divinity exists. But if you hold the simple belief that all people are wondrous creations of God, then you begin to see everybody as such. Their divinity becomes obvious to you even though they may blind to their own nature and origin. Eventually everyone’s divinity becomes visible to you and in that experience there is much peace and serenity (if you like that kind of thing).
We are spiritual beings having a human experience, not human beings having a spiritual experience.
Do you go to church and get reminded that you shouldn’t judge others? Then think to yourself, yeah, crap. I really need to lessen my judgments? But find yourself cutting people down in your mind days later?
Do you wish you could have more empathy for others, but find it hard because people are assholes?
Do you wish you could love other people more than you do but too often find yourself frustrated and angry?

Practicing Namaste is a take to the street action step for you. Try it. Contemplate the idea of all people originating from God. Give thought to the idea that each person on Earth carries a little piece of God within them; a little tiny divine spark or flame. Consider how wonderful that is and how it deserves to be honored by you even if they don’t honor it themselves.
Practice recognizing the divinity in others and see what happens. Life will change for you!
I hate to ruin your surprise but let me tell you what happens. All of a sudden people are no longer assholes. They become beautiful creations of God that act like assholes. This may seem slight only a slight difference, but it is not.
Consider the difference:
1) This person is an asshole vs. 2) This person is a divine being created by God that is, at this time, blind to their own beauty and acting out of fear and insecurity – are two opposite ways to view the same…well…asshole. You will no longer feel the need to attack people’s character; you will find more peace and love in your heart and will be a much happier person.
Now go have a wonderful day. Namaste!
