Have you ever received a random message from a friend or acquaintance that just brightened your day? If so, then somebody chose to give you a little love that day.
One of my favorite early morning activities is going on Facebook and sending random messages to friends, acquaintances and sometimes people I barely know.

It’s always some variation of pretty much the same message: “Good morning John. Have a great day today”. I don’t worry about how the message will be received. I don’t worry about the person’s reaction to it. I don’t care at all if they don’t respond. It’s a little exercise in choosing love and letting go of result.
Reactions to receiving little messages of happiness and encouragement are almost always positive. Sometimes people are a little freaked out. Sometimes people don’t respond at all. I don’t care about those non-positive responses because before I even send the message, I have let go of any attachment to result. I don’t hold it against them. I couldn’t even tell you who I’ve sent messages to that haven’t responded. Really, I couldn’t care less and it’s a wonderful and peaceful feeling to be relieved of expectation of outcome.

On the flip side, I can’t tell you how awesomely often I have received this particular response to my morning message, “OMG. You don’t know how much I needed that right now. Thank you so much!”
I think my little Facebook exercise is a metaphor for life. Everybody needs to receive a little love from others, and when it is unexpected and timely it can be crazy powerful.
